Abstract
"This paper introduces the potential of expended AIS monitoring coverage using the AIS system installed on the Socheongcho Ocean Research Station (SORS) through operational tests. The SORS has a favorable geographical condition to the extension of the observation area. In order to perform operational testing under these conditions, the AIS systems including CIS 100B, NAVIR 300 AIS receivers were installed on SORS and operated 24 hours a day. During operational testing, it was found that CIS 100B model was shut down during the operation. Even after the tests of expected causes, it was difficult to find the significant cause of the equipment error. However, it was confirmed that to operated unmanned AIS in real time in station with these environments, unlike for the operation in land, it is required to utilize a optimized system for station and to perform long term investigation for those environmental factors in the station. The results of the experiments suggest that AIS system on the SORS will contribute to the expansion of ship monitoring coverage."
